What is Sexual Dysfunction?
Sexual dysfunction is an issue that prevents you from engaging in sexual activity. This issue can be physical, mental, or a combination of both. It affects both men and women and is more likely to occur as people age.
There are 4 categories of sexual dysfunction:
- Arousal disorder: occurs when you’re in the mood for sex, but your body is not responding along with your mood
- Desire disorder: occurs when you regularly experience no interest in sex
- Orgasm disorder: occurs when you’re in the mood for sex but cannot climax
- Pain disorder: experiencing pain during sexual intercourse
Note that occasionally experiencing some of the above (with the exception of experiencing pain during sex) is completely normal. It is not normal to regularly experience any of these items. If you experience any of these issues on a regular basis to the degree it is negatively affecting your sex life, then you should contact UltraWave Center’s sexual dysfunction experts in Las Vegas.
What Causes Sexual Dysfunction?
There are many potential causes of sexual dysfunction, such as:
- Alcohol and drug use
- Changes in hormones (low testosterone or low estrogen)
- Heart disease
- Psychological issues
- Relationship issues
Common Types of Sexual Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction, or ED, is the lack of ability to get or keep an erection. Erectile dysfunction, like most kinds of sexual dysfunction, tends to occur more frequently as men grow older. When erectile dysfunction occurs often enough to negatively impact men’s self-confidence and relationships, it should be treated.
Risk factors of erectile dysfunction include prior medical conditions, like diabetes and heart diseases; drug and alcohol use or abuse, obesity; nerve damage; and side effects of certain medication. High blood pressure or high cholesterol may also be an issue, along with psychological problems like anxiety or depression.
Peyronie’s disease refers to a bend in the penis caused by the build up of fibrous scar tissue. This penile bend can make sexual intercourse difficult, and in the worst cases, outright impossible. It can even make sex painful. Erectile dysfunction often accompanies Peyronie’s disease.
Premature ejaculation (ejaculating before or after penetration) may be caused by erectile dysfunction or Peyronie’s disease, as well as stress or performance anxiety. This can cause a great deal of stress in relationships on top of any anxiety or stress you may already be dealing with.
Low testosterone levels can sometimes be the cause of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Having low testosterone levels can also lower your libido and make you feel less manly, making it difficult to engage in any sexual activity.
What Treatments are Available for Sexual Dysfunction in Las Vegas?
UltraWave Center’s Las Vegas sexual dysfunction clinic specializes in treating erectile dysfunction with shockwave therapy.
Shockwave therapy is a groundbreaking treatment for erectile dysfunction that gets right down to treating its root cause: blocked arteries and poor blood flow. Shockwave therapy uses low-frequency sound waves to break down the microplaque that’s clogging arteries and blocking blood from properly circulating. It also breaks down weakened arteries, which promotes the growth of stronger ones. The end result? A stronger and longer-lasting erection.
Shockwave therapy has been effective in treating Peyronie’s disease and other kinds of sexual dysfunction in men. It is noninvasive, which means there is no surgery involved, and drug-free, too. It is a procedure that takes no longer than an hour, and once it is completed, you can go right back home or to work without needing to take time out of your busy schedule to recover.
